Terms

These terms are between you and Pivot Drive Inc., the company that runs POBox51. They are short because the service is. Using POBox51 means agreeing to them.

What POBox51 is

POBox51 gives a host a temporary email address for a room of people. Everyone in the room emails that address once; when the room closes, everyone who took part receives one contact file with the whole group in it, and the host receives the same file and a spreadsheet. Then we delete what we collected.

A room holds at most 50 people and runs for as long as its timer, which the host sets and may extend. The service is free while it is in this form.

Who can use it

You must be 16 or older to use POBox51, whether you host a room or email one.

Fair use

Use POBox51 only for rooms you are hosting, with people who can see the address and choose to email it. Do not use it to collect details from people who have not chosen to send them, to gather addresses for a mailing list, or to send anything to the people whose details you receive that they would not expect from having been in the room with you.

Do not attempt to flood a room, take another host's room, or reach data that is not yours. Rooms that are flooded close themselves, and an account used this way is deactivated.

You are responsible for what you do with the contact file after we send it to you. It is a file of other people's details, given for one purpose; treat it that way.

No warranty on ephemerality

We delete what we collected after the contact file has been sent, and we test that we do. We cannot promise the same of everybody else: the mail service that carries the messages may keep copies of them to protect against spam and malware, and every person who receives the contact file has it on their own device from then on. The emailed copy is the durable one — keep it. Once a room's retention window has passed we cannot send it again, because we no longer have it.

The service is provided as it is, without warranties, and we are not liable for what follows from using it — including a room that fails to close, a file that does not arrive, or a person who misuses details they were given. If something goes wrong, tell us: we would rather fix it.

Ending

You may delete your account at any time from your account page, which deletes every room you hosted. We may deactivate an account that breaks the fair-use terms above. These terms are governed by the laws of Prince Edward Island, Canada.
